I want to share with you this old Dining Room Armchair that got a makeover!
Armchair Before and After
Here is the before and after so you can appreciate the transformation of this pretty armchair! I love the details!
This armchair was another one of my Thrift Store finds and has been sitting in the garage for a while now. It was sturdy and had a couple of repairs but nothing major, the finish was another story. It only took a few minutes to sand it down because the finish was like powder and came off so easy.
Yes I did!
Because of the details on this armchair, the intricate back and the carved legs, I used spray paint! I know not everyone would agree with that decision, but I hate drips and runs and this chair had so much detail.
Check out these legs, I could just see a little run of paint or drip finding its way down this pretty leg. I just didn’t want that to happen. So I opted to spray it with Rust-0leum Paint & Primer here is the link if you want to see what the can looks like. Castle rock was the color and I used a matte finish. It went on beautifully!
The matte finish is really nice and the coverage was great. Several light coats did the trick!
I had considered using this french inspired fabric but knew the minute I laid it on the chair it was not the right choice! Have you ever found just the perfect fabric and then get it home and just know it was wrong? So back to Hobby Lobby for another fabric. Luckily for me, it’s just down the street! Or maybe not so lucky for me, I seem to spend a great deal of time there! But this this time I think I got it right!
This looks so much better! I’m considering adding welting around the bottom of the cushion to make a nicer transition. I haven’t had the sewing machine out in a while, and will have to make another trip for fabric, so I’m still debating. Care to weigh in?
Although I won’t be using this at my house, it is a nice complement to the Ikea Hack in the background! If you’re in the Allen area and are interested in purchasing this armchair, please email me! I would love to find it a good home!
I hope you’ll pin this if you like this Armchair Makeover!
Until next time,
