Do you have as much trouble as I do passing up a cute little bench? Current count, 4 in the Lockman house right now! This little guy ( why do I always call my pieces guys?) was sitting in the drizzling rain at the big purple thrift store last week! I couldn’t believe it was only $4!
Until I got it home and saw it was in need of some repairs. Nothing major, just needed a little glue and some clamping to get it back in one piece!
You can do it too!
This was a fun and quick makeover requiring no tools other than a screwdriver and staple gun! I sanded it a little just enough to give the paint some tooth to improve coverage and then applied two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Provence…. do you see a theme going on here? The bench was painted at the same time I painted the Ceiling Medallion I finished last week! I promise that’s all the Provence I have planned for a while!
I did a little distressing, maybe more than I had originally planned but thats the way it works! Then a good wax job with Annie Sloan clear wax and on to recover the top.
For the top I used a hand towel. It’s true! A towel may not be the normal thing to recover the top of a bench with, but I planned to use it in the bathroom and thought it would be fun! Plus it was so easy. I just wrapped the towel around the cushion and stapled it around the edges.
No worries about ruining a more delicate fabric and it coordinates with the other towels in the space.
See the bunny? I couldn’t resist a chance to show this one off again! Thanks again friend!
Not too Perfect!
As you can see this little guy has seen some improvement, or at least I think so and yet it’s still not perfect. I show you these closeups so you don’t think it needs to be! This light is really showing the variations in color and the little gaps and distressing.
If you decide to try a project like this, remember to make it fun and don’t be too serious! Things don’t need to be ‘Perfect’ as I explained in this post!
Time Management has always been a problem for me and now that I’m working on this Blog and more projects than ever it’s really starting to show! So I plan to start using Time Blocking techniques to relieve some stress of deadlines and accomplish more in my days!
And the best thing about any new office project is Supplies!!!! This little planner is just what I need!
I won’t bore with with the rest of my binders and folders and other good stuff. Having the right tools is always important to get the job done! I’ll let you know how well this works for me!
If you have any time management tools or tips you’d like to share, let me know!
Until next time
