I’m so excited to share with you details of the first month of my first booth in the Plano Antique Mall. I have lots of pictures too! I hope my experiences will help you decide if a booth is the right thing for you!
This may seem like a small thing, to have a booth in an Antique Mall, certainly anyone can do it, the cost is relative small and the commitment is short, but for me, this was extremely scary and outside my comfort zone. Would my things sell, could I cover my rent, could I do it ‘right’ were all questions without answers.
This was going to take courage and I wasn’t sure I had enough. But what I did have was support from my awesome husband, my wonderful family and my dear friends, and that made all the difference.
I chose the Plano Antique Mall because of the friendliness of the staff. They took time to explain lots of things to a newbie like me and didn’t laugh at my many questions. The Plano Antique Mall has been in the same location for 19 years and they weren’t going anywhere and they had space available at the time I was ready!
My booth space is small, just 3X10, to give me a chance to see if I liked doing this. Have you ever thought you wanted to do something and then find it just wasn’t your cup of tea after you started? Since this was new to me, I wanted to take it slow.
And with a small booth space, I keep my rent low and a 6 month commitment will be over in no time, if I decide this isn’t for me.
Most Antique Malls give you freedom to decorate your booth anyway you want, I painted mine white and added simple shelves.
The Plano Antique Mall allows for a variety of items, which is perfect for my furniture makeovers, DIY projects, craft items and all the vintage items I love. Some malls are much more restrictive, so it’s important to know what you want to sell before deciding on your booth location.
I was very lucky and had a great first weekend, enough to covered my rent!!!
So the rest of the month I thought would be relatively stress free!! No worries about rent! That was wrong!
Maybe it’s just me, but I stress about everything and the fact that my sales did not continue at the same pace they did the first weekend just gave me something else to be concerned about.
I’ve been reassured by the owner there is always a lull during tax time. And spring is here with Easter and Mother’s day just around the corner, all exciting retail holidays!
So, I stocked up my booth and rearranged the small space again, and now I’m ready for Month 2!
Month 1 Recap
So in Month 1:
I overcame my fears, or at least a couple of them!
I exceeded my financial goal for the month! Yeah!
I got to go shopping a lot!
I have a place to share my treasures and all the items I love to make!
I’m meeting new people!
And most important, I’m having fun!
So overall Month 1 at the Plano Antique Mall far exceeded my expectations and I’m looking forward to Month 2!
If you happen to be in Plano I hope you’ll stop by and see me! And check out all the other wonderful booths here too.
If you have any questions about my first few weeks please let me know, I will be happy to answer any questions you have!
Thanks for listening! Until next time!
